The population of Fort Lauderdale Florida in 2005 was approximately 168293 people. Of the offenses known to law enforcement officers in 2005, 1503 were violent crimes and 11216 were property crimes. Violent crimes in 2005 included 15 cases of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, 67 cases of forcible rape, 741
cases of robbery and 680 cases of aggravated assault. Property crimes in 2005 included 2555 cases of burglary, 7564 cases of larceny or theft and 1097 cases of
motor vehicle theft.
